Kemer
Kemer is a pebble-beach resort 45 km southwest of Antalya Airport, backed by the Taurus mountains and built around six distinct areas. The seabed drops off fast here: we measure the nearshore gradient at 18 percent, which is steep enough to matter if you are travelling with a small child. If you want shallow water and sand, Belek is 95 km the other way.

What the beach is actually like
The beach is pebble, not sand, and the stones are coarse enough that water shoes are worth packing. The nearshore gradient we measure is 18 percent, so the water is over an adult's head within about 4 metres of the waterline.
That gradient is the single most useful number on this page. It means calm entry for a confident swimmer and a genuinely awkward one for a toddler.
Which area should you stay in?
Six areas run along the coast road, and they are not interchangeable. Kemer centre puts you within walking distance of the marina and the bus station. Goynuk and Beldibi sit closer to Antalya and cost less. Camyuva and Tekirova are quieter and further out, which means a taxi for anything after dinner.
When should you go?
The sea reaches 25 °C in June and peaks at 28 °C in August. July and August are also when the price index doubles against the February baseline. September holds 27 °C water at roughly three quarters of the August price, which is the clearest value in the year.
How do you get there from the airport?
Antalya Airport is 45 km away and the drive takes about 50 minutes on the coast road. That is one transfer each way. On a three-night stay it is a meaningful share of your time, and it is the reason people staying in Tekirova often regret not checking the map first.
Who should go somewhere else?
Families with children under five, and anyone who pictured walking into the sea gradually. The gradient here does not do that. Belek, 95 km northeast, measures about 3 percent on the same method and has sand.

Does Kemer have a sandy beach?
No. The beach is coarse pebble along the whole resort strip, and water shoes make the entry considerably easier. If sand is what decides your trip, Belek is 95 km northeast and has it. Some hotels truck in sand for their own frontage, but the public beach is pebble.
How far is Kemer from Antalya Airport?
45 km, which is about 50 minutes by road on the coast highway. That is one transfer each way, so on a short stay it is worth factoring into the cost and the time. Tekirova, at the far end of the resort strip, adds roughly another 20 minutes.
When is the sea warm enough to swim in Kemer?
The sea passes 21 °C in May and stays above it through October. It peaks at 28 °C in August. September is the value month: the water is still 27 °C while the price index sits at about three quarters of the August figure.
